Merit-Based Scholarships
When you apply to University of Illinois, you’re automatically considered for the Universities merit-based Scholarships. Many of these are for first year and transfer students in any college based on academic excellence, though awards are also given out based on major. All scholarships are for fall and spring semesters.

How to Apply for University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign Scholarships 

1. Applicant should gather his/her application materials.
• Before starting the application, be sure to have a copy of your high school transcript, any test score results you’re planning to include, and a credit card if you plan to pay the application fee upon submission.

2. Complete your application.
• You’ll provide your high school courses/grades, choose your major and a second choice, complete our writing prompts, and list your extracurricular activities, honors, and awards. You can also decide whether you want us to use your ACT/SAT scores in our review. We’ll use all information submitted with your application to determine admission into campus honors programs and award merit-based scholarships.

Courses & Grades
• List your high school courses and grades exactly as they appear on your transcript
ACT/SAT
• If you choose to report your scores, enter your highest test scores for the ACT composite and/or the SAT total without super-scoring, along with the highest sub-scores you earned in each category regardless of test date.
TOEFL iBT/IELTS/Duolingo English Test
• If you’re including these scores, you should report your highest TOEFL iBT (do not use MyBest score), IELTS, or Duolingo English Test score and highest sub-scores, regardless of test date.
3.Pay the application fee.
• When you submit the application, you’ll pay a nonrefundable fee by credit card. If you’re a domestic student who qualifies for a fee waiver, your guidance counselor must submit our fee waiver form. We must receive a fee or fee waiver form by our deadlines for your application to be considered complete.

• Domestic Fee: $50
• International Fee: $75

Requirements for University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign Scholarships

As applicants get prepared for the application to the University of Illinois the university expects all applicants to meet certain requirements which include the following:

Coursework & Grades:

Following are the kinds of courses you need to take while in high school and the number of years you need to take them. You should work to consistently make strong grades in these courses.

  • English: 4 years required
  • Math: 3 or 3.5 years required; 4 years recommended
  • Social sciences: 2 years required; 4 years recommended
  • Lab sciences: 2 years required; 4 years recommended
  • Language other than English: 2 years required; 4 years recommended
  • Flexible academic units: 2 years required, 4+ years recommended

Test Scores: ACT/SAT (if provided) They may also be a factor when it comes to scholarship and aid decisions.

TOEFL/IELTS/Duolingo English Test: A TOEFL, IELTS, or Duolingo English Test score may be required or strongly recommended to demonstrate a command of the English language.

University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign Scholarships

1. Federal Scholarship
This scholarship covers FULL Tuition and Fees OR Room and Board. There is a $600/Semester allowance for books, and $420/month monthly stipend for subsistence for 10 months each academic year. This stipend is tiered dependent on academic class. You are required to sign a contract for military service upon accepting the scholarship. You keep it by registering for the Military Science courses, have a minimum of 2.5 to be awarded, and maintain a 2.0 to retain. Freshman Applicants must have a 19 or higher on the ACT or a 920 or higher on the SAT.

2. GRFD (Guaranteed Reserve Forces Duty) Scholarship
This scholarship covers FULL Tuition and Fees OR Room and Board. There is a $600/Semester allowance for books, and $420/month monthly stipend for subsistence for 10 months each academic year. This stipend is tiered dependent on academic class. You receive E-5 Drill pay as well. You are required to sign a contract for Reserve or National Guard duty upon accepting the scholarship. You must be an MS III (Junior), unless you are a dedicated GRFD applicant, in which case you can be a MS II (Sophomore). You must also be a member of the Reserves or National Guard OR agree to participate in the Simultaneous Membership Program (SMP). In order to retain the scholarship, a cadet must maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA.

3. Illinois State Tuition Waiver
This tuition waiver covers the full amount of tuition only. There is no military commitment until the beginning of your Junior academic year (unless you are contracted). You acquire it by: being an Illinois resident, registering for the Military Science courses, have a minimum of 2.5 cumulative GPA to be awarded (3.0 cumulative High School GPA for incoming Freshmen), and maintain a 2.0 cumulative GPA and a 3.0 ROTC cumulative GPA to retain. You must be a student at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and you will be re-evaluated every semester.

4. Nursing Scholarship
This scholarship covers FULL Tuition and Fees OR Room and Board. There is a $1200/Semester allowance for books, and $420/month stipend for subsistence all 10 months of the academic year. This stipend is tiered dependent on academic class. You are required to sign a contract for military service upon accepting the scholarship. You keep it by registering for the Military Science courses, have a minimum of 2.5 to be awarded, and maintain a 2.0 to retain. Freshman Applicants must have a 19 or higher on the ACT or a 920 or higher on the SAT.
