The University of Copenhagen which is a public research university located in Copenhagen, Denmark was founded in 1479 as a theological university and has since transformed into a secular higher education institution that has the honor of being the second-oldest university in Scandinavia and one of Europe’s premier universities.
With six different faculties spread across four campuses in the country’s capital, the university has once again announced its scholarship award scheme for candidates who are interested in studying at the university to apply. We therefore entreat all applicant to pay good attention to all the information’s that will be provided in here.
The University of Copenhagen offers bachelor programs exclusively in Danish. Thus, international applicants should be proficient in the Danish language and provide necessary documents as proof. Additionally, international applicants in undergraduate programs should meet the general academic requirements, including a 6.0 Danish equivalent GPA. Furthermore, bachelor programs at the university have specific entry requirements.
With the availability of English-taught graduate programs in the university, international applicants must also meet specific language requirements depending on their degree program. For English Language Proficiency, applicants may prove through an official test score, such as TOEFL or IELTS. Applicants for the English-taught programs also do not need to meet the Danish language requirements.
Moreover, international graduate applicants must meet the minimum degree requirement equivalent to a Danish bachelor’s degree. At the same time, applicants must also have achieved the required Bachelor’s program for their selected Master’s program. Depending on the program, other qualifications for graduate studies include specific courses taken, GPA, national entrance examinations, and language tests.
1. Danish Government Scholarship
The Ministry of Higher Education and Science through the Danish Government offers scholarship for international students wishing to enroll at the University of Copenhagen. This scholarship available at the University of Copenhagen aims to cover most, if not all, of the costs a person would need to study in Denmark—this includes a partial to full tuition fee and additional allowances for basic living needs. All those who fit the criteria are eligible for the Danish Government Scholarship regardless of their financial stability. The Danish Government Scholarship is awarded to those with exceptional academic performance. The higher the GPA, the greater chances there are of a waived tuition fee and additional allowance for living expenses.
There is no separate application process for the Danish Government Scholarship as all those who apply for the University of Copenhagen will be considered

Eligibility Criteria:
• Applicants must hold citizenship from either Switzerland or a country outside of the European Union and European Economic Area
• Applicant must be accepted to a full-time master’s degree at the University of Copenhagen
• Applicants must hold a time-limited residence permit in Denmark for educational purposes
• Danish Citizens or Applicants Who own a Denmark Resident permit are Not Eligible
• Candidates Who Have Access to Grants offered by the Danish Government are not eligible to participate in this Scholarship.
2. The Gen Foundation Grant
Established on the 14th of August 1998 as a way to promote cross-cultural exchanges between Japan and the rest of the global society, The Gen Foundation is a charitable trust that supports the natural sciences like physical sciences, environmental sciences, and food sciences, among others is run by a set of trustees that carefully peruse through numerous applications for candidates that excel in their fields from all over the world. An applicant will need physical copies of the required documents to apply for this scholarship at the University of Copenhagen.
The requirements include the official application form
• Written statement of purpose
• English test results
• Applicant’s recent passport-sized photograph attached to the application form
• Applicants comprehensive resume
• Two original and signed non-personal reference letters written in either English or Japanese
• Applicants’ acceptance letter from the University of Copenhagen.
Scholarship Amount
$700 to $6900 depending on the Trustees’ discretion
Eligibility Criteria:
• An applicant must be applying for a postgraduate degree in the natural sciences, particularly food sciences or food technology
• An applicant must hold a bachelor’s degree or equivalent
3. OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID) Scholarship Award
Scholarship Amount: Tuition fees and monthly allowance
International applicants from developing countries may apply for this scholarship to pursue a master’s study in a development-related field at the University of Copenhagen. Successful applicants of this University of Copenhagen scholarship will receive full tuition fee coverage and a monthly allowance.
Deadline for application is 29th August.
