Financial aid programs at Tufts University are competitive, limited, and need based. This means that students who wish to apply for financial assistance should present their demonstrated financial need, which is the difference between the annual cost to attend Tufts and the number of the students’ families’ salaries. With this, upon applying for financial assistance, students are evaluated through their financial resources.

List of Tufts University Scholarships

1. The Davis United World Scholars Program

Eligible Degree: Bachelor’s
• Scholarship Amount: $10,000
Tufts University offers this scholarship to incoming first-year undergraduate students who graduated from across the world. The Scholarship is a need-based scholarship where scholars will receive a grant of $10,000 per year, renewable throughout their undergraduate degrees. The applicant must maintain a good academic credentials for it to be renewable

2. School of Engineering Graduate Scholarships

Eligible Degree: Master’s
Scholarship Amount: $5,000-$15,000
The university’s School of Engineering offers various scholarships to graduate students, for both U.S. residents and international students alike. These scholarship programs at Tufts University are merit-based and interested applicants must also state their financial needs. For example, the Double Jumbo Alumni Scholarship is offered to alumni who have earned their degrees from Tufts University and are enrolling in the School of Engineering. The scholarship contains a financial aid package of 30% tuition reduction. Students who started their studies in the Fall of 2023 are eligible.

3. Merit Scholarships
Tufts awards financial aid on the basis of financial need and aid is not adjusted for superior academic performance or extracurricular activities. Merit-based aid is provided only through the Tufts National Merit Scholarship program (see below), and the ROTC scholarship program.

4. Work-Study Grant
Financial aid recipients are typically awarded a work study allocation, with average amounts ranging from $2,000 to $2,600 per year. Work study wages are paid directly to students to be used towards their living expenses while studying at Tufts. At the start of the academic year, students can find available positions via the Career Center’s Handshake database that match their interests and class schedule. Students are paid $12.75 to $15.00 per hour and first-year students typically work 5 to 10 hours per week. Students who do not receive financial aid may still seek non-work study positions on campus and in the surrounding community.

5. Graduate Fellowship

Eligible Degree: Master’s and Ph.D.
Scholarship Amount: Tuition fees and living stipends
One of the scholarships at Tufts University is fellowships that subsidize costs, such as student fees, and include a cost-of-living stipend and health insurance. In addition, some fellowships cover expenses for professional development opportunities, academic conferences, travel grants, and other funding for additional classes. They are funded by a wide range of organizations, foundations, and Tufts University as well.

6. Research and Teaching Assistantships
Eligible Degree: Master’s and Ph.D.
Scholarship Amount: Tuition fees and living stipends
Tufts University has scholarships in the form of assistantships to graduate students where students work as teaching and/or research assistants under the supervision of a faculty supervisor. An assistantship is one of the funding opportunities for master’s and doctoral students. The financial aid package to the candidate consists of stipends, health insurance coverage, tuition fees, and other student fees coverage. Teaching assistantships involve assisting faculty members in teaching courses to undergraduate students, grade exams and papers, and other administrative and organizational tasks.

How to Access Tufts University scholarships

Tufts University is proud to meet 100% of the full demonstrated need of all admitted students.

• Indicate your intent to apply for financial aid on your application for admission
• The application deadline to submit your application materials is December 1st
• Complete online application forms

• For applicants whose parents are divorced or separated, Tufts requires information from both the custodial parent and the noncustodial parent (typically the parent with whom the student does not live) in order to determine eligibility for financial aid. You will need to complete an additional CSS Profile for the noncustodial parent or submit a Noncustodial Parent Waiver Request. Additional information regarding noncustodial parents is available on the Financial Aid website.

• The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is administered by the US Department of Education. Tufts’ FAFSA code is 002219.
• Submit required documents.

Applicants should upload signed federal tax returns, W-2 forms, and any other documents through the College Board’s Institutional Documentation Service (IDOC). A checklist of required documents will be available within the IDOC portal and the Tufts application status page. Students who are unable to upload the documents should mail them directly to IDOC. Please do not email or mail documents directly to Tufts. We suggest you keep copies of all documents for your records. Financial aid applications cannot be considered until all required documents have been received.
• Await notification of your admission and financial aid decisions.

Students who are offered admission to Tufts and submit all financial aid application materials by the deadline will be notified of their financial aid decision within a week of receiving their offer of admission.
