Japanese Government (MEXT Scholarships) Eligibility Criteria

The Japanese Government Scholarships (MEXT) for professionals with working experience related to international relations or peace and conflict prevention and resolution. The prospective applicants must meet the following requirements:
• The candidate applying for the Japanese Government Scholarships (MEXT) must have three years of related work experience for the master’s degree program.
• The applicant applying for Japanese Government Scholarships (MEXT) must have five years of related work experience for the certificate program.
• The applicant must either be from Africa, have worked in Africa, or work with African communities or initiatives outside the continent.
• An applicant must be proficient in English
• An applicant must have a bachelor’s degree
• The potential applicant should demonstrate leadership skills and have a solid commitment to cross-cultural understanding and peace in Africa. Working with African communities or initiatives outside the continent is an added advantage to winning the scholarship

An applicant must have all the following necessary documents as a requirement for the scholarship.
• Applicants MEXT application form for 2024
• Applicants academic Transcripts
• All Certificate(s) of the applicant
• A recommendation Letter from the counselor and teachers of the applicant.
• A medical report
• Applicants Passport
• Applicants resume or cv
• Applicants abstracts of theses

• Applicants’ tuition fee will be provided.
• Students Airfare allowance will be provided.
• All exam fee will also be provided.
• Applicants’ monthly stipend of up to 117,000 yen will be provided
• Students Transportation allowance in Japan will be covered

• An applicant’s tuition fee will be provided.
• An applicant’s Airfare allowance will be provided.
• All exam fee will also be provided.
• All Master’s students will be provided a monthly stipend of up to 144,000 yen
• All doctoral students will be provided a monthly stipend of up to 145,000 yen
• Transportation allowance will as well be covered

How to Apply for the MEXT Scholarships

• An applicant must apply for the scholarship first by submitting the required documents to the Japanese diplomatic mission in his or her country of origin.
• After screening, selected candidates will be asked to request the Japanese universities for an acceptance letter.
• A candidate who receives an acceptance letter will be asked to provide further required documents for the confirmation of the scholarship.
