Emerging Leaders in the Americas Scholarship 2024-2025
Welcome to Emerging Leaders in the Americas Scholarship which has been announced for interested applicants facing financial problem in attaining their degree studies. The Emerging Leaders in the Americas Program (ELAP) scholarships provide undergraduate and graduate students from institutions located in Latin America and the Caribbean with scholarship opportunities for short-term research or course-oriented exchanges.
The Emerging Leaders in the Americas Program (ELAP) aims to support the development of human capital and the next generation of leaders in the Americas while strengthening the linkages between post-secondary institutions in Canada and Latin America and the Caribbean. The scholarships also advance Canada’s objectives for the Americas: democratic and accountable governance, human rights, the environment, diversity and Indigenous peoples.
Eligibility Requirement for Emerging Leaders in the Americas Scholarship
Applicant must meet the following eligibility requirement:
- You must be enrolled full-time at a post-secondary partner institution in an eligible country and paying any tuition fees regulated by that institution at the time of application and for the full duration of the exchange.
- You must also meet the requirements of the Concordia Student Exchange Program.
- You must be enrolled full-time at a post-secondary institution in an eligible country and paying tuition fees regulated by that institution at the time of application and for the full duration of the exchange.
- A partnership agreement between Concordia University and the student’s home universities is not mandatory, but highly recommended, as applications of students from partner universities will be prioritized.
- A Concordia professor must have accepted to supervise the student’s research exchange at Concordia.
Application Process for Emerging Leaders in the Americas Scholarship
Required supporting documents:
- SFU’s Graduate Visiting Research Student Form: signed by student, supervisor and graduate program chair.
- Privacy Notice Statement: a copy of the document signed by the candidate.
- Proof of citizenship: a copy of the candidate’s passport or national identity document with valid dates; a driver’s license, permanent residence card, work permit, student card, health card, birth certificate or baptism certificate are not accepted as proofs of citizenship. Candidates from countries/territories that do not issue national identity cards must provide copies of their valid passports. The country/territory of citizenship selected in the online application form must be the same as the country/territory of the proof of citizenship.
- Letter of intent from the applicant: a letter in English or French from the candidate explaining the nature of studies or research to be undertaken; the rationale for study in Canada and for the choice of institution, program and supervisor; and how the proposed program of study or research will relate to their future career (maximum one page).
- Proof of full-time enrolment: a short letter in English or in French from the home institution, on official letterhead, dated within the last six months. This letter must confirm that the candidate is currently enrolled in a full-time program and will continue to be enrolled upon their return. Copies of transcripts, a student card or letter of admission are not acceptable (maximum one page).
- Letter of support from the home institution: a letter in English or French from the candidate’s instructor, professor or international director on the institution’s official letterhead explaining the nature of study or research to be undertaken in Canada and how the candidate and the home institution will benefit from this scholarship program (maximum one page).
