China Scholarship Council (Chinese Government Scholarships) 2024-2025

The China Scholarship Council (CSC) is a nonprofit organization headed by the Chinese government’s Ministry of Education which seeks to provide financial assistance for international study. Institutions of higher learning are quickly recognizing the importance of providing opportunities for students across the globe. 1. Beijing Government Scholarship

An excellent award administered by the Chinese Scholarship Council is the Beijing Government Scholarship. This scholarship was created by the Beijing Municipal Government to attract top international students to the capital city of the People’s Republic of China. This award is divided into five different categories which provide annual funding for tuition only.
The scholarship award is divided into five different categories which provide annual funding for tuition only. Students from all backgrounds are encouraged to apply, including:
• Doctoral students – can receive up to 40,000 RMB annually
• Master’s students – can receive up to 30,000 RMB annually
• Undergraduate students – can receive up to 20,000 RMB annually
• Senior scholars / long-term language students – can receive up to 10,000 RMB annually
• Exchange students – can receive up to 5,000 RMB annually

2. Chinese Government Scholarship – Chinese University Program Award

This scholarship is a full scholarship program complete with three funding levels for full, half, and partial tuition costs to study at 221 participating Chinese universities. In addition to free housing, this award may offer a monthly stipend of up to 3,000 RMB month for master’s or 3,500 RMB for Ph.D. students.
Eligibility for Chinese university program award.
• Non-Chinese citizens only
• Graduate students only
• Language Proficiency – achieving HSK4 (Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi Level IV) in the Chinese Proficiency Test is strongly encouraged, although it may not be required depending on if a university offers English courses
• Under 35 years of age for master’s and under 40 years of age for the Ph.D. program

3. CAS-TWAS Ph.D. Fellowship Program

This scholarship is a collaboration between the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the World Academy of Sciences to provide up to four years of funding for 200 recipients pursuing Ph.D. studies in China. This fellowship provides a monthly stipend of either 7,000 or 8,000 RMB to cover living expenses such as health insurance and accommodation in addition to waiving other costs such as tuition fees, application fees, and even visa fees.

4. World Meteorological Organization (WMO) CSC Scholarships

For undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students specifically interested in the field of meteorology, the China Scholarship Council offers a specialized scholarship. In conjunction with the World Meteorological Organization, the Chinese Ministry of Education has recognized the importance of studying and researching the global climate and environment. The WMO – CSC Scholarship offers partial scholarships for nonchains students of all degree levels who are pursuing the following majors:
• Meteorology
• Hydrology
• Water Resources Monitoring and Management

Eligibility criteria for China Scholarship Council (Chinese Government Scholarships)

To be eligible, an applicants must

• An applicant must be a citizen of a country other than the People’s Republic of China and be in good health both mentally and physically.
• An applicant must be an academically excellent holder of high school diploma or its equivalent under the age of 25 when applying for an undergraduate program.
• An applicant must be an academically excellent holder of a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent under the age of 35 when applying for a master’s program.
• An applicant must be an academically excellent holder of a master’s degree or its equivalent under the age of 40 when applying for a doctoral program.
• An applicant must be a holder of a high school diploma (or higher) under the age of 45 when applying for a general scholar program.
• An applicant must be a master’s degree holder or an associate professor (or above) under the age of 50 when applying for a senior scholar program.
• An applicant must have passed the HSK (Level 3) when applying for a Chinese-taught undergraduate or general scholar program (excluding Chinese language majors);
• An applicant must have passed the HSK (Level 3) when applying for a Chinese-taught senior scholar program.
• An applicant must have passed the HSK (Level 4) when applying for a Chinese-taught postgraduate program.
• An applicant must meet the admission requirements of the university of preference in terms of language proficiency and academic ability, among others, when applying for a program taught in a language other than Chinese.

Application Documents for China Scholarship Council (Chinese Government Scholarships)

• Application Form (in Chinese or English): The Application Form will be created automatically after the correct filling through Chinese Government Scholarship Information System (CGSIS). Instructions of the online application is in the next chapter.
• A Scanned Copy of Passport Information Page. An applicant shall submit a clear scanned copy of the information page of his/her passport that will not expire on or before March 1, 2023. If the validity of the current passport does not meet the requirement, please apply for a new passport before submitting the application. An applicant who fails to apply for a passport before submitting their applications due to objective reasons may submit valid documentation or documentary evidence that carries information about the full English name, sex, nationality and date of birth of the applicant upon the approval of the Embassy.
• Applicants Diploma and Certificate of Highest Education (notarized photocopy). An applicant who is a current university student shall submit the certificate of expected graduation or student status issued by his/her university. Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized Chinese or English translations.
• Applicants academic Transcripts: Transcripts in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized Chinese or English translations.
• Language Qualification Certificates. Applicants for Chinese-taught programs must submit valid HSK reports in accordance with the corresponding Chinese proficiency requirements. Applicants for other language-taught programs shall provide relevant language proficiency certificates according to the universities’ requirements, like IELTS or TOFEL report.
• Applicants’ admission documents. To apply for master’s and doctoral degree or as general and senior scholars, applicants shall provide admission documents issued by the applied universities. Admission documents include admission notice, pre-admission letter, invitation from professors and etc. Applicants with admission documents will obtain the priority in winning the Chinese Government Scholarship.
• A Study Plan or Research Proposal in Chinese or English. (A minimum of 200 words for undergraduates, 500 words for non-degree students, and 800 words for postgraduates.)
• Recommendation Letters. Applicants for graduate programs or senior scholar programs must submit two letters of recommendation in Chinese or English from professors or associate professors.
• Example of Art. To apply for art or design related majors, applicants could submit their own works through “Example of Art/Other Supporting Documents” in the CGSIS. Applicants could also provide such materials to the applied universities directly in other ways.
• Applicants still under the age of 18 before enrolling in September 2022, should submit the valid documents of their legal guardians in China. Those applicants could fill in the “Contact in China” through CGSIS. If he/she doesn’t have any contact person or organization in China, he/she may contact and fill in the Fijian Embassy in China.
• Applicants planning to stay in China for more than 6 months must submit a photocopy of the attached Foreigner Physical Examination Form completed in English (the original copy should be kept by the applicant. The form is designed by the Chinese quarantine authority. The physical examinations must cover all the items listed in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Incomplete records or those without the signature of the attending physician, the official stamp of the hospital or a sealed photograph of the applicants are invalid. Please select the appropriate time to take physical examination as the result is valid for only 6 months.
• Non-criminal record report. The applicant shall submit a valid certificate of Non-Criminal Record issued by the local public security authority, usually issued within 6 months prior to the submission date of the application.

 How to Apply for China Scholarship Council (Chinese Government Scholarships).

• Visit “CSC Study in China” website and click “Scholarship Applications for Students” at http://www.campuschina.org
• Register an account through “CREAT AN ACCOUNT” and login with your account.
• Input Personal Details. Click “Application Online” and then click “Edit Personal Details” to finish inputting personal details by filling in all the information, verifying and saving the information. After the completion of this section, return to the previous page by clicking “Finish” and start filling in your application information.
