Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters are prestigious international masters, jointly designed and delivered by a group of higher education institutions. They involve at least 3 institutions from at least 3 different countries, and multiple associated partners from the academic and non-academic world.

Typically, they include periods of study, research, traineeship, thesis preparation and defence.

You will gain

  • a joint degree (i.e. one single degree certificate issued on behalf of at least two higher education institutions)
  • multiple degrees (i.e. at least two degree certificates issued by two higher education institutions of the consortium)

You’ll be able to define these in detail when you sign a study agreement with the relevant Erasmus Mundus Joint Master at the beginning of your studies.

When to apply

A new batch of selected Erasmus Mundus Masters is added to the list each year.

In most cases, you should submit your application between October and January for courses starting the following academic year.

Each master’s website has all the details about the course of study, the list of the participating universities, the entry requirements and all the steps of the application process (with and without scholarship).

What you need

You must

  • have a bachelor’s degree (first degree), or be in your last year of bachelor studies
  • graduate before the master’s programme starts

You may also apply if you demonstrate a bachelor’s equivalent level of learning. This must be officially recognised, according to national legislation and practices, in the degree awarding country.

How to submit an Erasmus+ Application?

To submit an Erasmus+ project, applicants must follow the four steps described below:

  1. Registration. Each applicant must be registered as follows:
    1. For actions managed by the Executive Agency, applicants, affiliated entities and associated partners must register in the EU Funding & Tenders Portal and receive a Participant Identification Code (PIC) 1 . Organisations/groups that have already obtained a PIC through their participation in other EU programmes do not need to register again. The PIC obtained from this previous registration is valid for applying under Erasmus+
    2. For actions managed by National Agencies, applicants must if not already done, register through the Organisation Registration system for Erasmus+ and European Solidarity Corps and receive an Organisation ID (OID)
  2. Check the compliance with the programme criteria for the relevant Action/field
  3. Check the financial conditions
  4. Fill and submit the application form

Content of grant applications

The content of a grant application will depend on the specificities of the call and the electronic platform used (see “Step 4: Fill in and submit the application form” below). In general, a grant application will contain the following elements, which can be requested at different stages of the application process:

  • information on the legal status of the applicant, including whether it is a non-governmental organisation
  • Declaration on Honour on absence of an exclusion situation and on compliance with the eligibility and selection criteria
  • information necessary to demonstrate the applicant’s financial and operational capacity and/or supporting documents to this effect, if needed
  • description of the action or work programme and an estimated budget, if needed; and
  • indication of the sources and amounts of Union funding received or applied for in respect of the same action
